Feb 4, 2026A trilogy of heroic failures, in four parts
As far as life changing 30 minute presentations on the meaning of failure go, this is widely considered to be one of them. Only marginally outperformed by an innings of the English cricket team in the past solar year.
Our story concerns four large systems which stopped doing the things they were built to do, and what the people who built them did after the culturally appropriate equivalent of a nice cup of tea.
As well as recognised veterans of failure (see above statement on the English cricket team), there may be something useful here for those who have thus far enjoyed an uninterrupted career of things going right, though statistically, it’s more likely your seniority simply precludes you from those particular emails.
David O’Dwyer is the Director of LiveWyer, a London-based consultancy that modernises enterprise infrastructure through small, agile engineering teams specialising in Cloud and Platform solutions. With 25 years of hands-on experience in Solutions Architecture and Operations, David has guided organisations across multiple sectors through their digital transformation journeys, focusing on building resilient, scalable systems that put people and developer experience first.
Don’t miss out on David’s talk - 11:30am in Theatre 3.
